Political Campaign Debates

As a valued community resource for non-partisan analysis and political scholarship, WIPPS served the Central Wisconsin area in numerous capacities during the 2010 midterm elections.

WIPPS co-sponsored two debates, moderated a third, and provided ongoing commentary, summary, and analysis on campaign issues from May to November of 2010.  First, WIPPS co-organized with WPR, WAOW-TV, Wausau Daily Herald, WSAU Channel 7 the statewide Wisconsin US Senate debate between Russ Feingold and Ron Johnson on October 14, 2010. With the same partners, WIPPS co-organized the regional 7th Congressional District debate between Julie Lassa and Sean Duffy, October 26, 2010.  Finally, the WIPPS Interim Director moderated the Central Wisconsin Senate and Assembly candidate forum on alcohol, tobacco, drug and mental health issues, held in Wausau on October 25, 2010. The WIPPS Interim Director was also a featured spokesperson for 2010 election reporting undertaken by the Wausau Daily Herald, City Pages independent weekly newspaper, WSAW and WAOW television stations, Wisconsin Public Radio, and the CBS Evening News. He reviewed key state and national races, commented on campaign spending and political advertising, provided guidance for voters on key issues facing the state, and analyzed election results.
