Service-learning is a method of teaching, learning, and reflecting that combines academic classroom curriculum with meaningful service.

As a core component of its mission, the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service facilitates service-learning projects across the UW Colleges and UW–Extension. The WIPPS approach to service-learning embraces both academic and community standards in its application of practices and promotes knowledge and skill retention through experiential learning, reflective activities, and real-world applications. Because WIPPS service-learning projects address real community needs, they strengthen bonds between educational institutions and community partners.
