Interns - Getting The Job Done

Any student, whether undergraduate or graduate level, from any school, is welcome to join us as a WIPPS intern., It’s part of our mission to help jump-start civic involvement across all age levels and skill sets

Our interns get involved in WIPPS community and statewide projects and collaborations, earning valuable school credit or other compensation.

With guidance from the WIPPS Director and the WIPPS supervisors, we have hosted over 80 student interns. WIPPS has also worked closely with AmeriCorps*VISTA participants placed on site through Wisconsin Campus Compact as wells as VISTAs attached to other institutions.

Our Goal – Helping Activate Your Civic Life

Students who show strong leadership potential in WIPPS projects and activities can take part in mentoring, service, and reflection opportunities. As an intern, you’ll get the chance to reflect on civic and community issues and get involved in the programs and events you care about most.

Have you ever thought about helping in your community, on things that you care about?

THE COLLEGE ACCESS PROJECT

Interns were involved with tutoring, mentoring and assisting with tours of UW-Marathon County.

KIDS VOTING USA

As part of Kids Voting—USA in the Wausau School Districtt, mockp conventions were held during Winterim (January 2012). One targeted high school students and another middle schoolers. THE K-12 DELIBERATION PROJECT

For several years, WIPPS has introduced the deliberative model to various middle and high schools in the Wausau area. In 2011-12, WIPPS interns helped with programming, increasing their own understanding of the deliberative process, and also helped develop leadership and teamwork skills with middle and high school students.

THE NATIONAL DEBT DELIBERATION PROJECT

WIPPS hosted a statewide series of public deliberations on “America's National Debt” and presented possible solutions to that issue. Interns helped with event planning and served as note-takers and moderators for the events.
