Corrie Norrbom
Dr. Norrbom has been Health Policy Fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service since 2013 and is a WIPPS Research Partner. She is a family physician and Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Central Wisconsin where she co-directs the Physician in the Community course. Dr. Norrbom is passionate about addressing the many factors beyond medical care that affect the health of individuals and their communities.
As part of her civic engagement, she serves on the Executive Committee of the Healthy Marathon County Alliance and on the Executive Committee of the North Central Community Services Program Board. She serves on the Planning Committee and multiple subcommittees of the Marathon County Early Years Coalition. She is a One Wausau board member, and she also serves on the D.C. Everest School Board.
Dr. Norrbom has practiced rural family medicine in Antigo, Wisconsin, and in New Zealand. She currently sees patients part-time with Aspirus Family Walk-Ins.
Projects
Preparing for the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace: A View from Wisconsin (2013) and It’s Here: The Federal Health Insurance Marketplace in Wisconsin (2013), state-wide conferences that brought diverse stakeholders together to optimize access to health insurance coverage in Wisconsin.
As a champion of the importance of early childhood development, she organized Baby Business: The Dollars and Sense of Investing in Working Parents (2016) and Baby Business 2: Strengthening Today’s Workforce, Preparing Tomorrow’s (2017). She brought LENA Start to Marathon County and serves as its Program Director https://www.lenastartmc.org/.
National, state and local experts examined the neurobiology of addiction and its impact on workforce, families, and community well-being through Substance Abuse: It’s Everybody’s Business. Uniting to Think Differently About Addiction (2017).
She was part of a dedicated team leading the Toward One Wausau community diversity project (2016-2018). She served on the Steering Committee and was Co-Chair of the Health Equity Track for Toward One Wisconsin: A Conference on Overcoming Barriers to Inclusion, the inaugural statewide conference in April 2019.
Education
Dr. Norrbom attended UW-Marathon County and received a BS in Biology from Marquette University. She graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in 1994 and completed a Family Medicine residency in Duluth, MN. She is Board certified in Family Medicine.
