David Obey

Former Seventh District Congressman Dave Obey retired in 2010 after serving 41 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. He served on three major economic committees in the Congress: the Budget Committee, the Joint Economic Committee, and the Committee on Appropriations, which he also chaired. He joined WIPPS as a senior fellow in 2011.

Obey teamed up with former Sixth District Congressman Tom Petri for two tours across the state in 2015 to talk about civic participation and the need for more civility in government – the Obey-Petri Civic Participation Series. {link}

In September 2014, the David R. Obey Civic Resource Center was dedicated at the UW Center for Civic Engagement in Wausau, with the central focus to get more young people involved in government.
