Building Brighter Futures Starts Here
On December 3rd, the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service will join organizations around the globe to celebrate GivingTuesday—a movement that taps into the power of generosity to transform communities and create meaningful change.
At WIPPS, we know that leadership and civic engagement begin early. That’s why we’re dedicated to educating and empowering young people through programs like LENA Start Marathon County, the High School Leadership Program, and the Washington Seminar.
This GivingTuesday, we’re asking for your support to invest in the next generation of leaders.
Your donation will directly fund initiatives that inspire leadership, learning, and personal growth—from a child’s first words to their first big steps into adulthood.
Today, we’re shining a spotlight on LENA Start Marathon County, a program that focuses on accelerating language development in children from birth to age three. Why does this matter so much? Because language is one of the strongest indicators of a child’s future success—in school, relationships, and life.
Children in language-rich environments build stronger literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills. Yet, research shows that children from low-income families hear 30 million fewer words by age three compared to their peers. This “word gap” can set them back before they even start school.
Here’s how LENA Start Marathon County is making a difference:
- Helping children develop critical language and literacy skills before the age of three.
- Providing tools for parents to improve the quality of their interactions with their children.
- Encouraging families to connect with community resources and early-childhood programs.
- Partnering with employers to support working parents—strengthening families and the workforce.

As we reflect during this season of gratitude, we hope you’ll consider making a gift to WIPPS. Together, we can help children thrive, empower families, and create brighter futures for all.
Thank you for being part of this important work.
