Public Issues Series: Maintaining a Fair and Independent Judiciary

fair-judiciaryA public lecture by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly will be held as a kick off for the League of Women Voters statewide annual meeting in Wausau, June 1-2, 2012, at the Center for Civic Engagement. Justice Kelley will address such issues as: how to maintain a fair and impartial judiciary in politically polarized times; how to keep judges from being unduly influenced by campaign contributions and expenditures; and what other states (aside from Michigan) can do to ensure the independence of the judicial branch.

In the coming year the Wisconsin League will work to encourage informed citizen participation in the upcoming elections, advocate for a fair and independent judiciary, and monitor the implementation of new election law. The League will continue to vigorously defend the injunction on voter ID requirements through the appeals process.

This event is free and open to the public.
