To raise awareness about hunger and poverty in Central Wisconsin and to encourage the community to help those in need, the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service is sponsoring a talk by Wayne Kostroski titled, “Giving is Good Business!” at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the UW Center for Civic Engagement, 625 Stewart Ave.
Kostroski will talk about how he started “Taste of the NFL: The Party with a Purpose” and how important it is to give back to the community in whatever way you can.
The “Taste of the NFL” is an annual Super Bowl fund-raising event that has donated over $14 million for food pantries in the United States. Kostroski is a native of Stevens Point and a successful restaurateur, who has devoted much of his life to combating hunger. He is the winner of the 2010 James Beard Humanitarian of the Year Award.
Partners in the event include: Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin; University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point; University of Wisconsin-Marathon County; Marathon County Hunger Coalition; The Neighbors’ Place of Wausau; and, “Stock the Shelves” campaign.
The event is free, but attendees are invited to bring non-perishable food items for distribution to local food pantries and/or make a donation. For further information and to RSVP, please contact Connie Nikolai at 715-261-6368 or connie.nikolai@uwc.edu.
