2026 Washington Seminar Applications Now Open!

2026 Washington Seminar Applications Now Open

The Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS) and the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire have announced that applications are now open for the 2026 Washington Seminar.

This three-week study away program brings students to Madison and Washington, D.C., to experience public policy firsthand. The 2026 seminar will run May 26–June 13 and will be led by UW–Eau Claire faculty members Daniel Simmons and Jordan Hamzawi.

Open to all majors, this program tailors meetings with policy experts to align with each student’s research and career interests. Participants earn three transferable credits through UW–Eau Claire.

The Washington Seminar offers a rare, insider’s view of policymaking and is an ideal opportunity for students considering internships or careers in public service or government. Participants meet with members of Congress, executive branch officials, lobbyists, and other policy professionals.

“This class was 100 percent worth it, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to be a part of it,” said Deon Canon, a UW–Stout student and past participant. “By interacting with members of Congress, I learned how to see past the smoke and glamor of political figures and see them as human beings.”

Applications close Feb. 1, 2026, and space is limited. The course fee of $4,450 covers tuition, airfare, housing, a Metro Pass, and daily breakfast. Scholarships are available for students with financial need.
