Kettering Project: K-12 Consortium Deliberative Research Project
WIPPS maintains an ongoing research collaboration with Kettering Foundation of Dayton, Ohio, as well as high school and college institutions in Birmingham, Alabama; State College, Pennsylvania; and Long Island, New York.
The consortium research project focuses on the impact of deliberative practices on K-12 student levels of civic engagement, political tolerance, empathy, problem-solving, decision-making and classroom climate. One result has been the implementation by WIPPS staff of a pilot research project entitled, “Creating Democratic School Culture: A Developmental Approach to Deliberative Schools.”, designed to serve as a benchmark for identifying learning outcomes using deliberative practice in K-12 schools.
