Kudos to WIPPS spring interns!

Six UW-Marathon County students were WIPPS interns over spring semester – providing valuable behind-the-scenes support for our programs and events while gaining real-world experience in developing professional business skills.
Since WIPPS was launched in 2007, 110 students have come on board as interns, with another six young people assisting us through the AmeriCorps program.
WIPPS salutes our spring interns – with a few reflections from them on what they most enjoyed about their spring with us.

Morgan Johnsen
Morgan Johnsen, a freshman from Wausau, is a design and visual communication major who plans to attend UW-Milwaukee next year. “I enjoyed the opportunities to be more involved in the community and on campus with projects like ‘Toward One Wausau’ and the presidential debate parties the most.”
Chris Mattson
Chris Mattson, a freshman from Tigerton, is a computer science major who will be continuing his studies next year at UW-Madison. “The thing I enjoyed the most as an intern is knowing that WIPPS is serving the community in a very beneficial way.”
Brett Woller
Brett Woller, a freshman from Merrill, plans to attend law school after finishing his undergraduate degree. “Being an intern helped me expand my workings in the public sector and also introduced me to what community involvement is all about.”
For the past 10 years, WIPPS has been succeeding in its mission to spur civic engagement through public scholarship, nonpartisan public dialogue, student learning and service, and community building initiatives.
Our outreach to communities results in a better-educated citizenry who is more engaged in the issues of the day, and all the while, we’re educating tomorrow’s leaders with our actions of today.
