Toward One Wausau: Diversity Dialogue begins Oct. 26
Date:
Time: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: UW-Marathon County, Terrace Room
Address: 518 S. 7th Avenue, Wausau Wisconsin
Details:
The Wausau area has been known for being safe and welcoming, but some people from different cultural or ethnic backgrounds have not always felt welcome. How can we address these differences in attitudes and perceptions and work to encourage positive community relationships?
To begin this important discussion, you are invited to the first of several community conversations. “Toward One Wausau – a Dialogue on Community Diversity” invites residents young and old, from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, to come together and give their feedback and perceptions on diversity and social justice issues.
Community members will discuss:
- How can we effectively address different attitudes toward diversity in our community?
- How do we encourage positive community relationships and avoid problems seen nationally?
- How do we begin a constructive conversation to build unity in the Wausau area?
Using a small-group setting, with people sitting around each other, participants will begin by sharing individual stories of what community means to them. This will be a safe space to share concerns about recent or past events that concern people, and that will be addressed in a constructive way.
The conversations will address perceptions, attitudes and the existence of discrimination, implicit and explicit, in the community.
