Equity in Education: College Success for Single Mothers
In 2020, Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin participated in a national study that collected data to help improve college outcomes of single mothers attending community colleges. Western learned that working single mothers make up almost 15% of their student body. They found that these students face financial struggles, difficulties finding reliable and affordable childcare, and are incredibly resilient.
Director of Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement at Western Technical College, Kari Reyburn, will present Western’s plan of action to improve college success for single mothers. This plan includes removing barriers and improving the structural inequities in their college’s system.
