Hi everyone! For those of you I have not yet met, my name is Katie Schramm and I am the new Student Coordinator for the Student Journalism Program. I am excited to get to know everyone and help connect students with media companies allowing them to gain real word experience in the journalism field.
As we have been getting the program off the ground, we have been energized by the enthusiasm from both the students and the companies for this program. However, we have found that sometimes communication between the media partners and students can be challenging. To remedy this and provide each relationship with a strong foundation, we are going to be following up with each of you individually on a regular basis to work with you and support your efforts. In addition, I thought it would be helpful to write-up some basic guidelines and exceptions for everyone.
Students are expected to:
- Reach out to your contact at the media company you have been assigned to start new stories.
- Set a goal to submit an article regularly to your media partner. We suggest one per month.
- Submit an article completion form when an article is published.
- Work with Roger and/or Katie as needed on story ideas, interviews; and writing and editing help.
Media partners are expected to:
- Get back to students in a timely manner.
- Provide students with guidance for writing articles/broadcasting.
Review story ideas with students as needed. - Review, edit, and provide feedback for students on their submitted stories.
- Publish completed student stories.
